The role of Turkmenistan as a transport and logistics hub on the Eurasian continent is growing, more and more countries are interested in its transit opportunities, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement, TASS reports.
"Turkmenistan pays close attention to the establishment and strengthening of international cooperation in the field of transport and logistics: the material and technical base of the national transport system is being strengthened, automobile railway lines are being built, the geography of air traffic is expanding. All these processes are firmly integrated into the process of establishing international cooperation, which contributes to the development of the role "Turkmenistan in the world economy as a transit country for transport and cargo flows. Turkmenistan is gradually turning into a transport and logistics hub on the Eurasian continent, the opportunities and prospects of our country are also interested far beyond our continent," the report says.
It is noted that transport diplomacy is the main initiative of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. The country's Foreign Ministry recalled that, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted several resolutions on various aspects of transport cooperation.
Among them are "The role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development", "On the way to ensure comprehensive interaction between all modes of transport in order to promote the creation of sustainable multimodal transit corridors" and others. Also on May 16, the General Assembly proclaimed the day of the first Global Conference on Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat, which opened on November 26, 2016, as World Sustainable Transport Day.
The Foreign Ministry also reminds that Turkmenistan, located at the intersection of regional and interregional highways and transport routes, has a huge transit potential and seeks to realize it. "Today, integrating into the global transport sector, Turkmenistan is successfully implementing the foreign policy initiatives <...> of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, the ex-president of the country Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to create transport and transit routes in the directions "North - South" and "West - East" that contribute to the unification of vast geographic spaces," the report says.
