The Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Helga Schmid, participated in a high-level meeting with heads of environmental agencies from Central Asian countries. The event took place at the Yyldyz hotel in the capital, Orient reports.
The projects of Central Asian countries and the OSCE are aimed at developing a unified strategy to address environmental issues, with both sides giving special attention to these matters. Participants in the Ashgabat meeting focused on aspects of environmental problems such as sustainable water resource management, the development of water diplomacy, and the role of women in these processes.
Turkmenistan reiterated its position regarding the agenda of the meeting, stating that Ashgabat is a member of key international conventions and is an initiator of proposals and laws related to environmental safety at the national and international levels. The national legislation of Turkmenistan reflects fundamental international documents in the field of ecology, including the Global Methane Agreement. The high level of cooperation between the OSCE and Turkmenistan's environmental structures was acknowledged.
Delegates from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan emphasized in their speeches that strong historical and cultural ties and common positions on the development of Central Asian states help successfully address any challenges in the field of environmental safety.
