Turkmenistan held talks on joining Gas Exporters Forum

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with Mohammed Hamel, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), on the prospects of Turkmenistan joining the international organization. The meeting took place on March 20, 2025, during which the parties exchanged views on Turkmenistan's accession to the GECF, Turkmenportal.tm reports.

The discussions covered the current state of global energy markets and the potential for expanding cooperation through specialized organizations and structures. Both sides emphasized the significant potential for developing an effective partnership in the gas sector.

The Turkmen side proposed organizing training sessions and seminars with GECF experts to strengthen technical cooperation between the parties.

Rashid Meredov also invited GECF representatives to actively participate in events organized by Turkmenistan as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Both parties expressed confidence that the outcomes of the International Conference “International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development” will provide a significant boost to further cooperation in the energy sector.

At the end of the meeting, participants expressed hope for the continued strengthening of ties between Turkmenistan and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
