During the state visit of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Turkmenistan in 2021, an agreement was reached to start joint work in certain industries. As part of the implementation of this agreement, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced that the Turkmen side would consider the possibility of implementing a pilot project to create a textile factory in Tajikistan with the participation of Turkmen companies. He also proposed to open trading houses in the capitals of both states in the very near future.
The parties also agreed to develop a special program of cooperation in the agricultural sector, and Turkmenistan expressed interest in the supply of Tajik aluminum. Rolled aluminum and cast aluminum blanks will be used at the state enterprise "Nebitmaş" for the production of construction products.
On May 10-11, 2023, President of Turkmenistan Berdimuhamedov made an official visit to Tajikistan. The parties signed an agreement on the strategic deepening of bilateral relations, and many bilateral sectoral agreements were signed between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Tajikistan is the largest aluminum producer in Central Asia. The Tajik aluminum plant TALKO is a city-forming enterprise in the city of Tursunzade. The main product is primary aluminum. About 98% of primary aluminum is exported annually. The plant is the main export manufacturer in Tajikistan. The design capacity is 517 thousand tons per year, 63.5 thousand tons were produced in 2021.
