The international events of recent times clearly demonstrate that the preservation of peace, strengthening security, and stability will be the main priorities of global politics, said President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, at the CIS Heads of State Summit in Bishkek, Orient.tm reports.
"In this context, today Turkmenistan, taking into account the realities and trends of global development, suggests initiating discussions on the possibilities of developing a Strategy for Global Security under the auspices of the United Nations. This initiative was voiced by us during the 78th session of the General Assembly," noted the President of Turkmenistan.
The strategy should encompass three important directions. The first is the principles of preventive diplomacy as a tool for conflict prevention and neutralization, addressing the root causes. The second is the utilization of the potential of positive neutrality as a political and legal category. The third is the restoration of the culture of trustful dialogue as a guarantee of peace, Berdymukhamedov stated.
"We view the development of the Strategy as an important step toward fostering an atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation, including within the Commonwealth, for addressing current political, economic, environmental, nature conservation, and humanitarian issues, and for achieving sustainable development goals overall," quoted the Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH) the words of the Turkmen leader.
The President emphasized that Turkmenistan's proposals for the creation of a United Nations-organized Security Conference in Central Asia remain relevant for cooperation within the Commonwealth.
The President of Turkmenistan sees the goal of the Conference as the development of approaches and solutions aimed at bringing together and synchronizing the efforts of Central Asian countries, as well as other interested states, international organizations, financial and economic institutions in ensuring sustainable and conflict-free development of the region.
Serdar Berdymukhamedov invited the Commonwealth countries to participate in the first session of the Conference in Ashgabat next year.
The CIS Heads of State Summit took place in Bishkek on October 12-13, 2023, with the participation of 8 presidents.
