The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, for negotiations on the purchase of Turkmen gas, reports Trend.
"Today, July 30, Alparslan Bayraktar will hold talks with the president of 'Turkmengas,' Maksat Babaev, the Minister of Energy, Annageldi Saparov, and the president of 'Turkmengeology,' Gurbandurdy Garliyev. Tomorrow, the Turkish minister will be received by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov," report Turkish correspondents accompanying Alparslan Bayraktar.
In a statement on the eve of the visit, the Turkish minister noted that he plans to discuss with the leadership of Turkmenistan the details of transporting Turkmen gas to Turkey through Iran and Azerbaijan. Through Turkey, Turkmen gas could reach Europe. In his opinion, there is no need for major investments in infrastructure to deliver gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey.
"Turkmenistan could initially export 1.5-2.0 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to Turkey. In March, Turkey signed a Declaration of Intent for cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of natural gas and hydrocarbons, and in June, an agreement was signed on the supply of Turkmen gas to Turkey," Bayraktar emphasized recently.
Bayraktar also mentioned that Turkey is working on contracts for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the period 2027-2037, which will be announced soon.
Turkey consumes about 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The country also positions itself as a gas hub, with five LNG terminals of various capacities and a developed pipeline network.
