In Ashgabat, Turkmenistan hosted the International Forum on Peace and Trust, coinciding with the International Day of Neutrality and the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality. The high-level event gathered presidents, government officials, and leaders of international organizations, underscoring the global significance of Turkmenistan’s neutral stance. President Serdar Berdymukhamedov delivered a keynote address, outlining the country’s strategy for peace, stability, and regional cooperation, reports Orient.tm.

Berdymukhamedov highlighted the adoption of the Constitutional Law on “Legal Foundations of Turkmenistan’s Policy of Peace and Trust,” describing it as a milestone that reinforces the country’s unwavering commitment to durable peace. He emphasized that in today’s complex geopolitical environment, peace and trust have become particularly valuable, requiring a shift from confrontation toward constructive, realistic, and balanced approaches to global security and development. According to the president, achieving this goal requires joint efforts by states and international institutions, guided by the UN Charter and recognized international norms.

Turkmenistan’s neutrality, Berdymukhamedov explained, is not only a diplomatic principle but also a driver of domestic growth and international cooperation. The country’s “open doors” economic policy, derived from its neutral status, has fostered favorable conditions for stable economic and social development, promoting trade and investment partnerships. This approach has helped Turkmenistan earn a reputation as a reliable partner for major international projects, fostering trust and collaboration with numerous countries.

The president also highlighted Turkmenistan’s constructive partnership with the United Nations. He noted that the UN views Turkmenistan as a responsible and effective partner in addressing global and regional challenges, advancing Sustainable Development Goals, and promoting fair international cooperation. Berdymukhamedov emphasized the country’s intention to expand collaboration with UN structures to concentrate efforts on national, regional, and global programs.

A central feature of the forum was the announcement of a new international initiative: the creation of a University of Peace and Neutrality in partnership with the United Nations. This initiative aims to leverage Turkmenistan’s extensive experience in peacebuilding, preventive diplomacy, and conflict resolution, while also promoting research and education. Berdymukhamedov expressed hope for broad international support and confirmed the country’s readiness to engage with friendly states and partners in developing the project.

The forum not only commemorated three decades of Turkmen neutrality but also served as a platform to reflect on regional and global developments. Participation by over ten heads of state, including leaders from Russia, Iran, all Central Asian leaders and African nations, alongside the announcement of the University of Peace and Neutrality, highlighted Ashgabat’s active role in shaping forward-looking, humane approaches to global governance. The event reinforced Turkmenistan’s commitment to promoting peace, cooperation, equality, and trust in international relations.
