Turkmenistan officially assumed the chairmanship of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) at a solemn ceremony in Ashgabat on May 16. The chairmanship was passed to Turkmenistan from Azerbaijan, Turkmenportal reports.

At the 10th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO Affairs of TURKSOY member states, the organization's Secretary-General, Sultan Raev, handed over the symbol of the chairmanship to the responsible secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Affairs, Chinar Rustemova.

Rustemova will chair TURKSOY on behalf of Turkmenistan. She possesses extensive diplomatic experience, having served as Turkmenistan's ambassador to India and China for a long time. Earlier in her career, she was involved in the cultural sphere.

The transfer of the chairmanship in TURKSOY underscores Turkmenistan's commitment to preserving and developing Turkic culture at the international level.
