Turkmenistan plans to intensify the process of accession to the WTO

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has prepared a number of proposals for developing a plan for systematic cooperation with the World Trade Organization, stepping up steps to sign a document on joining this organization. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Government - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, according to the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".

The article of the newspaper proposes to study the issue of appointing a special representative of Turkmenistan to the WTO, to send a delegation of the country to Geneva, where the headquarters of the organization is located, next month to discuss aspects of cooperation.

Not long before that, a meeting of the government commission to study issues related to accession to the WTO was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The meeting participants stressed that it is planned to implement a large number of tasks to complete the preparatory measures for joining the WTO, they discussed specific steps to develop a memorandum on the foreign trade regime of Turkmenistan, which is one of the conditions for entry.

In July 2020, Turkmenistan was granted observer status in the WTO, and in February 2022, Ashgabat applied for membership as a full member of the WTO, as a result of which it was decided to grant it the status of an acceding country.
