Turkmenistan presents five-year plan to combat human trafficking

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the official presentation of the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking for 2025–2029. The document was approved by a decree of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in January 2025, Turkmenportal.tm reports.

According to Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry, the event was attended by members of the Interagency Commission on Combating Human Trafficking, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the country.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmet Gurbanov, emphasized the importance of the new plan, which was developed by the Interagency Commission in close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The Chairman of the Interagency Commission, Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan Begmurat Mukhammedov, noted that the National Plan consists of five sections outlining specific measures, implementation timelines, efficiency indicators, and the responsible state agencies.

According to participants, the adoption of this document aims to strengthen the state system for protecting human rights and freedoms, fulfill Turkmenistan's international commitments, expand humanitarian cooperation with international organizations, and enhance efforts to prevent threats at the national level.

During the presentation, attendees discussed in detail the strategic directions outlined in the document and exchanged views on their practical implementation.
