Turkmenistan proposes establishing a "Central Asia + ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)" format, TASS reports, citing the Turkmen agency TDH.
According to the information provided, during a recent cabinet meeting, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov announced that, considering Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, Ashgabat is ready to initiate this project to deepen cooperation.
Meredov emphasized that strengthening ties with Asia-Pacific nations, particularly Malaysia, is one of Turkmenistan's key foreign policy directions.
"In order to expand cooperation and considering Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, Ashgabat proposes launching the initiative to establish such a format," the report states.
On December 18–19, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid an official visit to Malaysia, where the parties discussed implementing joint projects in the fields of energy, transportation, and technology.
