Turkmenistan proposed strengthening interregional cooperation at the first meeting of ambassadors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Central Asia, and Mongolia in Brussels.
Turkmen Ambassador Sapar Palvanov suggested establishing a permanent mechanism for interaction, including regular meetings at the foreign minister level, as well as organizing trade forums and cultural exchanges between the countries of the two regions, a statement from the Turkmen diplomatic mission says.
The key theme of the meeting was the discussion of the outcomes of the GCC-Central Asia summit held in Saudi Arabia in July 2023. Participants emphasized the importance of developing economic partnerships, particularly in trade, investment, and transport-logistics networks. Special attention was given to strengthening cooperation with the European Union and the upcoming CA-EU and GCC-EU summits.
The Turkmen ambassador’s speech highlighted the role of Gulf countries as stable investors and reliable partners. It was noted that since gaining independence, companies from the GCC countries have played a key role in Turkmenistan's development, particularly in the oil and gas sector and the establishment of transport corridors.
Diplomats recognized the meeting as an important platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, expressing hope for the implementation of concrete projects that would promote the development of both regions.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment of both sides to continue dialogue and strengthen cooperation between the GCC countries and Central Asia.
