Turkmenistan Reviews Eight-Month Energy Sector Performance and Sets Year-End Targets

An operational review meeting was held in Turkmenistan to assess the performance of the oil and gas sector for the first eight months of 2025. Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Amanov, the meeting continued discussions initiated at the government session on August 29, according to Turkmenportal.com.

Key focus areas included the fulfillment of production targets, with emphasis on increasing output of crude oil, natural gas, gas condensate, and liquefied gas. Participants highlighted the need to actively integrate digital technologies into operations to enhance efficiency, monitoring, and process control.

The phased development of the Galkynysh gas field—one of the largest in the world—was reaffirmed as a strategic priority. Delegates also discussed plans for identifying and exploring new prospective fields and geological horizons, crucial for ensuring long-term energy sustainability.

Separate attention was given to international cooperation, including joint projects with foreign partners and the timely execution of fieldwork under seasonal and climatic conditions.

The meeting was attended by Ashyrguly Begliyev, Advisor to the President on Oil and Gas Affairs; Minister of Oil and Gas and Chairman of “Türkmengaz” State Concern Maxat Babaev; Chairman of “Türkmennebit” Guwanç Agajhanov; Chairman of the State Corporation “Türkmengeologiýa” Gurbangeldi Garlyyev; as well as heads of key enterprises and departments within the sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Amanov assigned specific tasks to the state concerns “Türkmengaz,” “Türkmennebit,” and “Türkmengeologiýa,” including improving natural gas supply systems for enterprises and households and enhancing the overall operational efficiency of the sector.

The meeting reaffirmed the central role of the oil and gas industry in Turkmenistan’s economy and outlined clear priorities for achieving production targets by the end of 2025.
