Ashgabat and Tashkent have signed a short-term contract for the supply of Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan in volumes of up to 2 billion cubic meters per year, Podrobno.uz reports.

"Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have signed a short-term contract for the supply of Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan in volumes of up to 2 billion cubic meters per year. This is just the beginning. We have discussed the development of a long-term contract with increased supplies. The natural gas that will be supplied from Turkmenistan will be used for domestic needs," stated Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, in an interview with Turkmen media.

According to him, during negotiations held in Ashgabat, discussions also covered issues related to electricity and petroleum product supply and transit, as well as the implementation of joint projects.

"We discussed the supply of chemical products, in particular, phosphorus and nitrogen fertilizers, caustic soda, calcined soda, and chlorine," he added.
