Bilateral cooperation between Qatar and Turkmenistan experienced rapid development in 2025, driven by the close fraternal relations between the leaders of the two countries and their shared commitment to elevating ties to a higher level across political, trade and economic, cultural, and sports spheres. This was stated by Qatar’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Taher, at a reception marking Qatar’s National Day, Turkmenportal.com reported.

The diplomat emphasized that the strengthening of relations became possible thanks to the personal efforts of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

According to the ambassador, throughout the year senior officials from both governments held numerous meetings and consultations to organize joint events and reciprocal delegation visits.

Sheikh Jawan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, and Vice President for Asia, paid visits to Turkmenistan.

Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misned, visited Turkmenistan three times: to attend the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, the international conference “The Role of Women in Modern Society: Developing International Cooperation for Sustainable Development” in the Avaza tourist zone, and the High-Level International Forum on Peace and Trust in Ashgabat.

Numerous Turkmen delegations also visited Qatar. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov traveled to Doha to take part in an emergency Arab-Islamic summit.

The ambassador particularly highlighted Turkmenistan’s support for Qatar, expressed in a statement by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry condemning Israel’s bombing of a residential area in Doha. The embassy expressed sincere gratitude to the Turkmen government for this fraternal stance, viewing Israel’s actions as an encroachment on Qatar’s sovereignty and a violation of international law.

Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice President for Medical Affairs of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for the Assistance of Children in Need of Care, along with a delegation, visited Doha to participate in the Doha Forum 2025.
