Turkmenistan and Turkiye intend to increase trade turnover between the two countries to $5 billion, said Turkey's ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ahmet Demirok, in Ashgabat, Turkmenportal.tm reports.

According to Demirok, the trade turnover between the countries tripled in the last four years, surpassing $2.5 billion in 2023. However, the economic potential of the relationship is much greater, and Turkey and Turkmenistan aim to bring the trade turnover to $5 billion in the near future.

The diplomat emphasized the contribution of Turkish companies to the development of Turkmenistan's infrastructure. Over the years of independence, they have implemented around 1080 projects in Turkmenistan, totaling over $50 billion.

Turkish companies have constructed numerous crucial infrastructure projects, including power stations, power lines, highways, housing, shopping centers, universities, schools, public buildings, hotels, factories, canals, museums, parks, hospitals, and seaports. Additionally, they share their expertise with Turkmen partners, said Demirok.

He also noted that in 2023, Turkish contractors completed 7 new projects in Turkmenistan worth $3.2 billion. Currently, 21 projects with a total value of $4.4 billion are being implemented.

Furthermore, Turkiye is a significant transit hub for Turkmen energy supplies to Europe. The parties plan to expand cooperation in the transportation of natural gas and electricity.

Cultural interaction is actively developing as well. Turkish TV series, films, and music are popular in Turkmenistan. In the future, the countries plan to implement joint cinema projects.

"In 2024, declared in Turkmenistan as the Year of 'The Treasury of Wisdom, Magtymguly Fragi,' and in connection with awarding the Turkmen city of Ana as the cultural capital of the Turkic world, a series of events are planned. Turkiye is ready to actively participate in them," emphasized Ahmet Demirok.
