Turkmenistan, Türkiye signed documents on expanding gas cooperation

Following the negotiations between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a package of bilateral documents aimed at strengthening Turkmen-Turkish partnership was signed on March 1 in Antalya, the Turkmen information agency TDH reports.

Specifically, Turkmenistan and Turkey signed:

  1. Declaration of Intent for Cooperation in the Hydrocarbon Resources Sector between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey.
  2. Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation on the Development of Partnership in the Natural Gas Sector between the State Concern "Turkmen Gas" and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey.
  3. Memorandum of Understanding between the Joint-Stock Company "Türkmenistan Airlines" and the University of the Turkish Aeronautical Association.

These signed agreements lay the foundation for extensive joint projects in the strategic sectors of the economies of the two countries in the coming years.

Turkey has recently shown persistent interest in obtaining Turkmen gas, actively involving neighboring Azerbaijan in this endeavor. It is anticipated that Turkmen gas transiting through Azerbaijan and Turkey could be directed to Europe.
