At the third session of the TIF 2026 Investment Forum in Ashgabat, the leadership of key government agencies presented a strategy for developing sustainable transport systems to international experts and investors, Orient.tm reported.
Turkmenistan's Minister of Railway Transport, Mammet Akmammedov, announced multibillion-dollar investments in rolling stock renewal, border station modernization, and the digitalization of freight transportation. Concluding his speech, he announced the International Transport Forum, which will be held in the capital from November 24–26.
In turn, Azat Shanazarov, Head of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport, highlighted the transit potential of the Turkmenbashi International Port and proposed joint projects with foreign partners to localize shipbuilding at the Balkan Shipyard.
The TIF 2026 session clearly demonstrated Ashgabat's commitment to systematically converting its advantageous geostrategic location into sustainable economic capital. For Turkmenistan, the comprehensive modernization of the Turkmenbashi port and the expansion of the North-South and East-West corridors are the main diversification tool, allowing the country to gradually reduce its dependence on hydrocarbon exports.
Attracting foreign capital to localize ship repair, develop multimodal logistics centers, and implement seamless electronic document management will finally cement Turkmenistan's status as a key transportation hub at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and the Persian Gulf.
