Chairman of the Turkmengaz state concern Maksat Babayev spoke about plans to develop the world's largest gas field Galkynysh and invited foreign investors to cooperate in its development, Turkmenportal reports.

The information was presented during the International Investment Forum to attract investments in the energy sector of Turkmenistan (TEIF 2024), which takes place in the capital of France.

The completed first stage of development of the field in the southeast of Turkmenistan steadily ensures the export of 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year to China. To increase supplies by 25 billion cubic meters, it is planned to use the second stage. The third stage will become the resource base for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project with a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters per year, Babayev said.

He noted that Turkmengaz, together with the British Gaffney, Cline & Associates, is updating the geological and hydrodynamic model for the phased development of the Galkynysh field. A tender has also been announced for the construction of an underground gas storage facility in the country to level out seasonal unevenness in the production and consumption of blue fuel, as well as to ensure the stability of its exports.

“We are open to mutually beneficial cooperation with all interested parties. I am confident that the current forum will become an effective platform for the further development of cooperation between national oil and gas companies of Turkmenistan and international investors,” Babayev said.
