ASHGABAT — From January to May 2026, Turkmenistan athletes won 301 medals at international competitions. These figures were announced by Deputy Prime Minister B. Mammedov during a government meeting dedicated to the country's socioeconomic development over the past five months, Turkmenistan.gov.tm reports.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, these achievements are due to the ongoing implementation of state programs for the development of sports and the training of professional athletes. It is noted that in May alone, Turkmen athletes won 132 medals, increasing the total number of awards won by the national team since the beginning of the year to 301.
Following his report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave instructions on the further development of the social sphere. The head of state emphasized the need to continue supporting talented youth in science, education, and the introduction of new technologies. He also ordered the improvement of healthcare facilities and the increased involvement of the younger generation in sports.
