Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Almasadam Satkaliyev, held negotiations with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Astana, Catherine Litch, and a delegation from Britain on climate issues in Central Asia, Forbes.kz reports.
During the meeting, the British side presented the UK Climate, Energy, and Water Security Program Fund for Central Asia, with a total funding of £19-20 million for a three-year period.
The British delegation familiarized themselves with Kazakhstan's plans for the gradual decarbonization of the economy in line with the goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The UK government is ready to develop joint projects in renewable energy (wind and solar energy), strengthening electrical grids, transitioning coal stations to gas, conducting research in hydrogen energy, biogas, and carbon capture and utilization technologies (CCUS).
The decision announced by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during COP-28 in December 2023 to join the Global Methane Pledge significantly expands opportunities for attracting financing for low-carbon technological projects. The British side emphasized the importance and timeliness of Kazakhstan's participation in this global initiative.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the British delegation thanked the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan for the productive dialogue.
