The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, has emphasized the need to include Afghanistan in Central Asia’s collective security framework, Sputnik Uzbekistan reports.
She made this statement during the first session of the Termez Dialogue on Connectivity between Central and South Asia.
Otunbayeva stressed that without addressing security challenges, investment and development projects in the region cannot be fully realized. She pointed to the lack of regular communication between Afghanistan’s security forces and those of neighboring countries, noting that counterterrorism units still do not hold joint meetings.
The event was organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. It took place in the Uzbek city of Termez, near the Afghan border. In her remarks, the head of the UN mission highlighted the importance of establishing mechanisms for cooperation to ensure regional stability.
