UN Secretary-General António Guterres has sent a letter to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, thanking him for the successful organization of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), held in Awaza from August 5 to 8, 2025. Guterres commended Turkmenistan’s leadership and longstanding commitment to peace and multilateralism, which created an ideal environment for the major international event. He highlighted President Berdimuhamedov’s key role in bringing together heads of state, civil society, youth, and media representatives around a shared agenda.
“The conference played a vital role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation, and global policy frameworks to support sustainable and inclusive growth for LLDCs, while strengthening their resilience to future shocks,” Guterres stated.
A key outcome of the summit was the adoption of the Awaza Political Declaration and the Awaza Programme of Action for the next decade. The UN chief described these documents as an ambitious roadmap closely linked to the “Pact for the Future” and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In conclusion, Guterres expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Turkmenistan for their hospitality and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to close cooperation for the full and effective implementation of the conference’s outcomes.
