UN Under-Secretary-General Praised Turkmenistan's Contribution to Promoting Neutrality

UN Under-Secretary-General Miguel Angel Moratinos sent a congratulatory message to the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, on the occasion of his birthday, TDH reported.

Moratinos expressed gratitude for the promotion of a policy of neutrality, peace, and trust, particularly noting the initiative to adopt a UN General Assembly resolution declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the Ashgabat Declaration, adopted at an international forum in December 2025.

According to him, the principles of neutrality, peace, and trust must remain the foundation of international cooperation and contribute to sustainable development.

The UN Under-Secretary-General also welcomed the resolution "The Role and Importance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development," unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 May 2026. The document calls for the development of preventive diplomacy and the annual commemoration of International Neutrality Day with educational events.

Moratinos emphasized that the resolution's provisions are consistent with the mission of the UN Alliance of Civilizations to promote dialogue and mutual understanding. In conclusion, he reaffirmed his willingness to cooperate with the Government of Turkmenistan in implementing joint initiatives and programs.
