The 2023 UN Water Conference inspired the global community, governments, financial institutions, international organizations and other stakeholders to take urgent action to address global water challenges.
This was highlighted during the Special Session on SDG 6 and the Water Agenda for Action at the High-Level Political Forum, which was held from 14 to 17 July at the UN Headquarters in New York, Khovar reports.
Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda, speaking on the topic “Outcomes of the UN Conference on Water Resources 2023”, noted that at the Conference the issue of water supply was perceived as the highest priority of the UN.
The solidarity of the participants at the Conference proved that joint efforts can lead to positive changes, including the resolution of the water crisis and the achievement of internationally agreed goals and targets related to water.
“This is evidenced by the 829 voluntary commitments made by stakeholders to take urgent action in the water sector, covering many aspects, including policy, financing, governance, cooperation, which were registered in the Water Action Agenda,” added Zavkizoda.
The session was organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in cooperation with UN-Water.
Tajikistan has repeatedly raised the water issue at various international levels, including the UN tribune. The initiative of Tajikistan played a big role in the adoption of the UN Resolution on water issues.
