Representatives of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have arrived in Kazakhstan on an overview mission, the Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan informed.
From August 26 to 30, the Americans will conduct a technical review as part of the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA). The FAA members are to evaluate the activities of Kazakhstan's aviation authorities in ensuring effective oversight of flight safety in the country. "The arrival of FAA specialists in Kazakhstan was preceded by close cooperation between Kazakhstan's aviation authorities, the country's embassy in the U.S., the U.S. embassy in Kazakhstan, and the FAA," the statement said.
FAA specialists "will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current state of Kazakhstan's civil aviation system and provide recommendations for further improving flight safety and compliance with international standards." During the visit, auditors will assess the flight safety oversight system. As part of the review, a technical visit to Air Astana is also planned.
During the work of the U.S. experts, a meeting has already taken place between Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastayev, and the General Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, Catalin Radu, with the FAA delegation.
Air Astana is expecting the delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Kazakhstan at the end of 2025. These aircraft will enable direct non-stop flights between Kazakhstan and the U.S. "After Kazakhstan successfully passes the FAA audit and the arrival of long-haul aircraft, direct flights from Kazakhstan to the U.S. will be launched," noted the Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan.
