Uzatom and IAEA discuss NPP construction project in Uzbekistan

The Director of Uzbekistan's Atomic Energy Agency, Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, discussed the construction of a small modular nuclear power plant (SMR) in Uzbekistan with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, the press service of "Uzatom" reports.

The talks took place in Vienna on September 17, where key issues regarding the development of nuclear energy in Uzbekistan were discussed, including the reorganization of "Uzatom" and the SMR construction project. Preliminary work on the project has begun in collaboration with the Russian state corporation "Rosatom."

Additionally, plans were considered for joint events with the IAEA focused on nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors, which will highlight the international significance of these technologies and attract interest from other countries.

During the meeting, the support for a trilateral approach to the construction project was confirmed, ensuring compliance with international safety standards.

Furthermore, the preparation for Rafael Grossi's visit to Uzbekistan was confirmed during the negotiations.
