From May 19 to 21, the city of Termez, located on the border between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, will host the inaugural Termez Dialogue on Cooperation between Central and South Asia, Ariananews.af reports.
The forum, titled "Creating a Common Space of Peace, Friendship, and Prosperity", is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
The event is expected to gather around 200 participants from political, economic, and business sectors, as well as financial institutions and think tanks representing Central and South Asia, Europe, the CIS, the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas, and the Middle East.
Delegates will include government officials, industry leaders, representatives of international organizations, and prominent experts from global research and analytical institutions.
The primary goal of the Termez Dialogue is to establish a multilateral discussion platform to advance regional integration and promote the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution "Strengthening the Connectivity Between Central and South Asia," adopted in 2022 at the initiative of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Discussions will focus on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the two regions, with an emphasis on enhancing security, stability, and sustainable development.
Special attention will be given to the growing role of the private sector and financial institutions in driving regional economic growth.
One of the forum’s key expected outcomes is the adoption of a Communiqué calling for joint efforts to build trust and cooperation between Central and South Asia.
The Termez Dialogue is envisioned as a permanent platform for developing strategic dialogue, identifying new opportunities for interregional collaboration, and promoting lasting peace and stability across the Eurasian continent.
A high-level delegation from Afghanistan is also expected to participate in the dialogue.
