Uzbekistan abolished customs duties on more than 7 000 goods

In Uzbekistan, customs duties have been abolished for more than 7,000 types of raw materials and goods. This was announced during the 11th Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum, which is taking place in Samarkand, Asia Today reports.

The event will run until April 5. The forum includes panel discussions and thematic sessions on key trade and logistics issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, Uzbekistan demonstrates its commitment to further economic liberalization and creating favorable conditions for business.

The abolition of duties on goods and raw materials is aimed at promoting increased production and foreign trade turnover. Thanks to comprehensive reforms in recent years, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover has already doubled.

Teshabaev emphasized that the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has also taken measures to reduce the tax burden on businesses - almost by half. The country has one of the most attractive fiscal systems in Central Asia. Tax administration procedures have been simplified.

Speaking at the opening of the forum in Samarkand, which brought together more than 250 delegates from 30 countries, the Uzbek minister emphasized the importance of international cooperation in trade, economic, transport-logistics, and digital spheres.

He called on participants to focus on further simplifying trade procedures, including through the introduction of electronic data exchange and new business models.

In Uzbekistan in 2023, GDP grew by 6%.

GDP per capita amounted to $2,295.

For comparison, Kazakhstan's GDP amounted to $270 billion with a growth of 5.1% in 2023. GDP per capita amounted to $13,300.
