Uzbekistan continues its active efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), made possible through profound economic reforms under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, stated Saida Mirziyoyeva, Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, summarizing the results of 2024. She is oldest daughter of Uzbek President.
"2024 was a significant milestone in Uzbekistan's integration into the global economy. We held two key WTO Working Group meetings, which allowed us to begin preparing the main membership document - the Draft Report of the Working Group. Bilateral negotiations with 15 countries, including the United States, China, and Japan, were concluded, resulting in the signing of 23 agreements," said Saida Mirziyoyeva, as reported by Uznews.uz.
She noted that 20 new laws aimed at increasing business transparency and fostering a competitive environment were adopted within a short period. These reforms are helping to establish a foundation for Uzbekistan’s integration into global economic processes.
According to Saida Mirziyoyeva, efforts will continue at the same pace in 2025.
"Membership in the WTO will be an important step for our country. It will create new opportunities for businesses, attract international investments, and integrate Uzbekistan's economy into global value chains," emphasized the Assistant to the President.
She also added that the primary goal of these reforms remains the welfare of the citizens: creating jobs, improving living standards, and introducing modern approaches to economic management.
Uzbekistan is confidently moving towards achieving these goals, strengthening its position on the international stage, concluded Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Among the Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan is actively striving to join the WTO, and Kyrgyzstan (1998), Tajikistan (2013) and Kazakhstan (2015) are already WTO members from the region. The process of meeting all required conditions for Kyrgyzstan's accession took about three years - from 1996 to November 1998.
