An Uzbek–Chinese roundtable on the practical implementation of the Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the “SCO Plus” meeting in September 2025 was held in Tashkent, Dunyo.uz reports. The event was organized by the Center for Foreign Policy Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan together with the Embassy of China.
Opening the meeting, the Center’s director Sanjar Valiev emphasized that China’s initiative is becoming an important part of the international agenda. Amid accelerating global changes, countries need mechanisms that ensure equal opportunities and stable cooperation. He noted that global developments significantly affect Central Asia, making cooperation between Uzbekistan and China increasingly practical.
It was highlighted that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives in interregional connectivity, digital transformation, and sustainable growth align with China’s approach and complement it. China’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Yu Jun stated that the Global Governance Initiative aims to strengthen multilateral mechanisms and is based on the principles of sovereign equality, international law, multilateralism, and a results-oriented approach.
The ambassador underscored China’s readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in infrastructure, transport, energy, digital technologies, and environmental projects - all areas that create new opportunities for regional development.
The roundtable consisted of three sessions focused on conceptual foundations of the initiative, its international dimensions, and practical cooperation in Central Asia. Participants discussed ways to align the initiative with multilateral structures and national development strategies, including the “Uzbekistan-2030” program.
Following the discussions, the sides emphasized the need to further strengthen expert dialogue and develop recommendations to advance the initiative’s practical potential in the regional context.
