Uzbekistan and Egypt strengthen cooperation

A ceremony of signing of documents was held in Egypt capital Cairo on the results of the Uzbek-Egyptian high-level talks, UzA reports.

It was a part of the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Arab Republic of Egypt, which began on February 20 with the official ceremony of meeeting.

The heads of the two states adopted a Joint Statement aimed at expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and educational fields.

In the presence of Presidents Mirziyoyev and Abdelfattah al-Sisi, a number of bilateral documents were also signed providing for the development of interaction between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and the General Directorate for Investments of Egypt, cooperation in the field of quarantine and plant protection, organization of public health care, attracting investment and strengthening bilateral investment relations, technical regulation, exchange of experience on development issues.

In addition, memorandums of understanding were signed between the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Uzbekistan Abu Raykhan Beruni and the National Library and Archives of Egypt.

"The head of our state highly appreciated the results of the Uzbek-Egyptian business forum held the day before, as a result of which specific agreements were reached on the implementation of more than 20 agreements and contracts totaling $1.6 billion," Uzbek media reported.

The official visit of President Mirziyoyev to Egypt began on February 20 and will last for two days.
