Uzbekistan and IMF outlined ways to strengthen cooperation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, exchanged views on the development of the global economic situation and discussed expanding cooperation with the IMF. This includes agreements reached during their bilateral meeting in Samarkand in June 2023, Gazeta.uz reports.

President Mirziyoyev is in New York to participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and to attend a meeting in the C5+1 format with U.S. President Joe Biden.

"The head of the IMF highly appreciated the results of the ongoing program of irreversible reforms in Uzbekistan and expressed readiness to continue close cooperation in promoting effective transformations in the country," according to a statement from the President of Uzbekistan's press service.

The parties discussed the IMF's involvement in conducting a comprehensive analysis of the stability of Uzbekistan's financial sector, providing advisory assistance in developing proposals to improve economic policies, and implementing programs to enhance the capacity of government department specialists.
