On February 18, as part of the second day of his visit to Kuwait City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah.
The discussions focused on the further development and strengthening of Uzbek-Kuwaiti relations of friendship and comprehensive partnership, reports Uza.uz.
The leaders highlighted the dynamic growth of political contacts and interdepartmental exchanges between Uzbekistan and Kuwait. President Mirziyoyev highly praised Kuwait’s national program Vision 2035, noting its alignment with Uzbekistan’s New Uzbekistan development strategy.
Both programs aim for the long-term development and modernization of their respective countries, providing a strong foundation for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Economic and Investment Cooperation
The parties discussed the steady growth of bilateral trade and investments. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries significantly increased, reflecting mutual interest and trust.
To further promote joint projects, agreements were reached on:
- Establishing an Investment Platform and a Business Council
- Opening a Trade House in Kuwait City
These mechanisms are intended to facilitate business interactions between the two countries and encourage investment activity.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The discussions placed special emphasis on cooperation in the following sectors:
- Green Energy – Development and implementation of renewable energy projects
- Industrial Cooperation – Joint production and technology exchange across various industries
- Agriculture – Investment in the agro-industrial sector, including the supply of Uzbek agricultural products to Kuwait
- Transport and Logistics – Expansion of transport corridors and logistics infrastructure to facilitate trade
- Infrastructure and Urban Development – Joint projects in city planning and modernization, including the creation of smart cities
- Healthcare and Tourism – Experience exchange in the medical field and enhancement of tourism potential
Cultural and Humanitarian Collaboration
The parties also focused on expanding cultural and humanitarian ties.
An agreement was reached to hold Cultural and Tourism Weeks in Uzbekistan and Kuwait, which will foster mutual understanding and introduce both nations to each other’s cultural heritage. Representatives from both countries will actively participate in events related to art, music, cinema, education, and sports.
International and Regional Coordination
The leaders discussed coordination in international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Particular attention was given to preparations for the upcoming Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, scheduled for May 2025 in Samarkand.
This summit will serve as an important platform for discussing regional issues and strengthening ties between Central Asia and the Arab Gulf states.
