Kyrgyzstan plans to build the Chatkal cascade of hydroelectric power stations together with Uzbekistan. The Kyrgyz authorities recently discussed this issue with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Podrobno.uz reports.
On September 11, the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, announced the joint construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations in Chatkal at a press conference in Bishkek.
The project, according to the minister, was discussed during the visit of the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov to Bishkek on August 16.
“Now on the 20th we are planning a meeting of representatives of the two countries at the construction site of the Chatkal cascade,” Ibraev said.
The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan plans to find an investor for the project by the end of 2023.
The Chatkal cascade of hydroelectric power stations will include the Barkrauskaya hydroelectric station with a capacity of 250 MW and the Nizhne-Chatkal hydroelectric station with a capacity of 700 MW.
The Chatkal River originates in the mountains in the north of the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan and flows into Uzbekistan, where it flows into the Charvak reservoir.
