Future collaboration between Uzbekistan and Russia for the development of nuclear medicine at the "Uzatom" Agency was a key topic of recent discussions, Daryo.uz reports.

The meeting brought together representatives from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health, the Healthcare Project Center, the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, and the "Radiopreparat" enterprise. They were joined by experts from the "Rosatom Construction Technologies" division.

The Russian side shared its extensive experience in building modern nuclear medicine infrastructure, focusing on:

  • Cyclotron complexes and the production of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • PET/CT diagnostic centers.
  • Turnkey international projects successfully implemented globally.

Participants agreed to co-author a Roadmap and Strategy for the development of nuclear medicine in Uzbekistan. These documents will serve as the framework for technology transfer, specialist training, and improving healthcare quality. The project aims to significantly lower cancer mortality rates through early diagnosis and advanced nuclear-based treatments.

Uzbekistan is actively prioritizing this field. A Nuclear Medicine Center project has already launched in Tashkent. By the end of 2026, the facility is expected to be equipped with:

  • PET/CT scanners and a cyclotron.
  • A radiopharmaceutical laboratory.
  • Gamma Knife and CyberKnife systems.

In addition to infrastructure, the country is focusing on expanding oncological care, improving early-stage cancer screening, and training high-caliber medical professionals.
