Representatives of four political parties of Uzbekistan have been nominated as candidates for participation in the upcoming presidential elections this summer.
The Ecological Party of Uzbekistan at its plenum of the Central Council decided to nominate the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Central Council of the party Abdushukur Khamzaev as a candidate for the presidency of Uzbekistan.
The People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan nominated Ulugbek Inoyatov as a presidential candidate.
The Social Democratic Party Adolat nominated Robakhan Makhmudova as a candidate.
The Milliy Tiklanish party, together with UzLiDeP, will support the candidacy of Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the presidential elections.
The current president of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev, initiated extraordinary presidential elections after the adoption of a 65% updated Constitution of the country in a referendum on April 30, 2023. Under the new rules, the president can now be elected twice for seven years.
According to the previous version of the Constitution the powers of Mirziyoyev should be ended in 2026.
