By the end of 2025, Uzbekistan will cease production and sales of motor fuel that does not meet the Euro-4 environmental standard. This ban is part of the state program for 2025, Sputnik-Uzbekistan reports.
Additionally, thermal and electric energy producers in the country will no longer be allowed to use mazut as fuel. Exceptions may be made only in emergencies and with the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
Starting May 1 of this year, in Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers, the following activities will be prohibited:
- Production of asbestos, cement, sludge, and slag
- Opening of leather and poultry processing factories
- Burning any type of coal unless high-efficiency dust and gas filtration systems are used
- Establishing plants for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, glass production containing toxic impurities and chemicals
- Processing and incineration of hazardous waste of classes I and II
Moreover, existing projects in these industries, along with high-energy-consuming production facilities, must be gradually relocated to other regions.
By October 1, 2025, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, together with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade, and local authorities, must submit proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers for relocating such enterprises.
