Uzbekistan Explores Export Opportunities and Textile Cooperation with the U.S.

A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade visited the United States to expand export opportunities and strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties, Gazeta.uz reports.

During the visit, talks were held with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Cotton Association regarding the supply of American cotton through the GSM-102 Export Credit Guarantee Program. Discussions focused on increasing credit limits and launching the "Made from U.S. Cotton" initiative, which would allow Uzbekistan to export textile products made from U.S. cotton under a new certified label.

Although Uzbekistan remains one of the world’s leading cotton producers, the country is shifting toward high-margin textile exports. Certified American cotton, used in premium and medical-grade textiles, could play a strategic role in this transition.

The sides also discussed the potential for re-exporting processed cotton — specifically, exporting Uzbek-made textiles labeled as made from U.S.-origin cotton. This would enable Uzbekistan to access new segments of the global market with higher added value.

Earlier in 2024, Cotton Council International opened an office in Tashkent, and Uzpromstroybank became the first financial institution in Central Asia to participate in the GSM-102 program.
