Uzbekistan is actively paying attention to China's experience in fighting poverty in rural areas, RIA Novosti reports citing Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov.

"Recently, a delegation of the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan studied China's experience in combating poverty in rural areas, which we want to widely use here ... it is China's experience in reducing poverty that is and can be an example for many countries in the world to reduce poverty," Kuchkarov said. at the opening of the SCO forum.

Uzbekistan started the fight against poverty just a few years ago, but is steadily moving towards the goal. This became possible thanks to reforms and support from international organizations, including the SCO. So, in 2022, the poverty rate in the republic decreased from 17% to 14%.

Poverty is a problem that requires concrete action, and the SCO countries have sufficient experience in this matter, Kuchkarov said.

The SCO Forum on Combating Poverty and Sustainable Development is being held in China. This fact is of great importance for the organization, because half of the world's population lives in the SCO countries.

Recall that the SCO forum on combating poverty and sustainable development started today in the Chinese province of Shaanxi.
At present, the SCO includes Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iran is in the process of joining the organization. Afghanistan and Mongolia have observer status.

At the summit held in Samarkand in September 2022, a mechanism was launched for Belarus to join the SCO, which has had observer status since 2015. Dialogue partners are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
