In the regions of Uzbekistan, projects for the construction of modern solar, wind, and hydropower plants worth $13 billion are being implemented, Podrobno.uz reports.

During a meeting on priority issues related to increasing the use of renewable energy sources in 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Uzbekistan has sufficient potential in solar and wind energy to generate 10-12 times more electricity than the current demand.

For a long time, the utilization of such a vast opportunity remained overlooked, but in recent years, thanks to the establishment of a legislative framework in this sector, an attractive environment for investors has been created.

The country has launched large-scale programs to create sources of "green" energy. The industry has already received $2.1 billion in direct foreign investments, and projects worth $13 billion are currently in the implementation stage.

Modern solar and wind power plants are being constructed in almost all regions of Uzbekistan. Notably, in Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Samarkand, and Surkhandarya, 9 large solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 1.6 gigawatts have been put into operation. In Andijan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Tashkent regions, 6 large and small hydropower plants with a capacity of 183 megawatts have been launched.

Furthermore, President Mirziyoyev highlighted that solar panels with a total capacity of 457 megawatts have been installed on social facilities, enterprises, organizations, buildings owned by entrepreneurs, and in residential apartments.

These measures have allowed the generation of an additional 5 billion kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity and the conservation of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

Moreover, extensive work in this area has given a significant boost to the production of such products as transformers, cables, heating collectors, and solar panels at local enterprises.
