Uzbekistan plans to start importing Russian gas from March 1, 2023, Interfax reports.

"We plan to start importing natural gas from Russia to Uzbekistan from March 1, 2023," the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.

The established working group is already studying the state and technical capabilities of Uzbekistan's gas transportation infrastructure for gas delivery.

Earlier it was reported that on January 24, a working meeting was held between the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, and the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov. The parties considered current and future issues of interaction. At the meeting, Alexey Miller and Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov signed a "road map" for cooperation in the gas industry.

On the eve of the Ministry of Energy of the republic reported that Uzbekistan, within the framework of the "road map" signed with Gazprom, provides for issues of gas supplies. At the same time, no negotiations were held on the transfer of the gas transmission system to the Russian concern.

"The negotiations and the adopted road map are aimed at supplying natural gas to the domestic market in the required volumes while fully maintaining ownership of the existing gas transportation system of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this case, there is no threat to either the gas transportation system or our sovereignty," the Uzbek ministries.

The authorities of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are discussing the possibility of increasing Russian gas supplies to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, taking into account the growth in domestic consumption and export obligations to China. This may require the modernization of the gas transmission infrastructure for gas delivery and even the construction of new gas pipelines. Including on the territory of Russia, it will be necessary to invest about 260 billion rubles in the development of gas transportation infrastructure.
