Uzbekistan intends to increase export of tourism services to $2 bln

Uzbekistan plans to attract about 30 million foreign and domestic tourists and increase the export of tourism services to $2 billion in 2023, Kazinform reports.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov said this on the sidelines of the international conference "Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan - the basis of the New Renaissance".

He noted that in the period January-May 2023, 2.6 million foreign tourists visited Uzbekistan, the export of tourism services doubled, amounting to 833.5 million US dollars. Since the beginning of the year, more than 8 million local tourists have made trips as part of the “Travel around Uzbekistan” program.

In the direction of promoting the tourism potential of Uzbekistan abroad, agreements were reached with the global television companies BBC, CNN and Euronews, the largest online streaming platforms Netflix and Amadeus, the online travel platform Trip.com (China), Holiday factory and Visa Facilitation Services Global (UAE).

“This year it is planned to attract 10 million foreign tourists to the country, organize domestic trips for 20 million local residents. As a result, the export of tourism services will amount to $2 billion,” Nazarbekov said.

He added that by the end of the year, 1.2 million tourists from Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Israel, India and the CIS countries will visit Uzbekistan through pilgrimage tourism. 170 hotels, 72 hostels, 48 other types of accommodation will be launched, 290 accommodation places and 492 new family guest houses will be created in total, and 50 thousand jobs will be created in the industry.
