Deputies of the parliament of Uzbekistan are considering a draft law "On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Administrative Responsibility in Connection with the Liberalization of Responsibility for Certain Categories of Crimes," Darakchi.uz reports.

The prohibition on the illegal import, sale, purchase, storage, or use of unmanned aerial vehicles, their components, and spare parts, except for the obligatory declared transit, has long been in effect. Although strict penalties are defined in case of violation of these requirements, the number of crimes increases from year to year.

When drones are imported into Uzbekistan by citizens and foreign tourists, criminal cases are initiated, and procedural actions are taken, causing public resonance on the Internet among the population and negatively affecting the country's image, note the initiators of the law changes.

This draft law has been developed in connection with the liberalization of responsibility for certain categories of crimes and in order to ensure the implementation of point 27 of the State Program for the Implementation of the Development Strategy of the New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 in the "Year of Care for People and Quality Education."

This document amends the Code of Administrative Responsibility with Article 185-4, which provides for administrative responsibility for the illegal import, sale, acquisition, storage, or use of unmanned aerial vehicles, their components, and spare parts.

Also, alternative types of punishment, such as fines, correctional labor, and freedom restriction, are introduced into the sanctions provided by Article 244-4 of the Criminal Code.

According to the initiators of the draft law, its adoption will contribute to mitigating public dissatisfaction without changing the established rules for the procedure of importing drones into our country and their use.
