The rational use of energy resources amid anticipated economic and population growth was discussed at a meeting held at the Administration of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the press service of the Uzbek president reports.
"It is necessary to introduce modern energy-saving technologies, especially in large industrial enterprises, where energy losses are the most significant," Mirziyoyev stated during the meeting.
Research conducted in the Samarkand, Syrdarya, and Jizzakh regions revealed substantial potential for energy savings. The replacement of 35,000 outdated units of equipment in small and medium-sized enterprises will allow annual savings of 385 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 50 million cubic meters of gas.
Significant energy-saving potential has also been identified in the public utilities sector. Switching to solar-powered street lighting will reduce current electricity consumption by 50%, equivalent to 100 million kilowatt-hours per year.
A key focus is the development of renewable energy sources. The construction of 300 small solar power plants with a capacity of 100 megawatts will save 45 million cubic meters of gas this year alone. An additional effect will come from the commissioning of over 1,000 micro-hydropower stations on water channels, ensuring the generation of 175 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
A comprehensive approach to energy efficiency includes not only technological solutions but also the promotion of a culture of responsible energy consumption, both in industry and households.
The government has been instructed to develop a special monitoring system to ensure the implementation of energy-saving measures. A special approach will be applied in the Fergana Valley, given its high population density, and successful experiences will later be expanded to other regions of the country.
