Moscow and Tashkent have reached an agreement to initiate cargo transportation along the route from Uzbekistan through Turkmenistan to Russia via the Caspian Sea. As reported by the "View on the East" Telegram channel, this development means that Uzbekistan has joined the North-South international transport corridor (ITC), which it had not previously utilized, the AsiaToday portal reports.
For Uzbekistan, this ITC provides an alternative route for trade with Russia, bypassing Kazakhstan. This corridor will be used for transporting various food products, as well as timber and petroleum products between the two countries.
The "North-South" corridor holds significance for Russia, and by utilizing this route, Uzbekistan gains undeniable advantages. Specifically, it gains access to ports in the Baltic Sea and the Persian Gulf, facilitating the delivery of the republic's products to the global market, the report stated.
