Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan discussed the construction of HPP on Chatkal River

Preliminary studies and plans for the construction of a hydropower plant on the Chatkal River in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan were discussed by the energy ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, as reported by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy.

The ministerial meeting also included representatives from the Chinese construction company CEEC and Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy Kamal Abbasov? Kun.uz reports.

The ministers reviewed the current status of the construction project for the "Kambaratinskaya HPP-1," which will be built on the Naryn River. They discussed issues related to coordinating the water-energy balance among the three countries.

At the end of the meeting, it was proposed to organize regular meetings of working groups from the countries and to sign a "roadmap" for project implementation.

In March 2021, during Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov's visit to Uzbekistan, an agreement was signed to prepare an investment project for the construction of "Kambaratinskaya HPP-1."

In January 2023, the heads of the energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap for the implementation of the hydropower plant project on the Naryn River.

The project is estimated to cost nearly $3 billion. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan plan to purchase electricity generated at the station that exceeds Kyrgyzstan's needs.
