The National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan, together with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, held a presentation of an Analytical Report on the country's legislation and practice in the context of the prospect of joining the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol, the report said.
The Center presented the project for representatives of the Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, the Prosecutor's Office, universities, representatives of the UN Agency and diplomatic corps in Tashkent.
The UN is very pleased that the close collaboration between the Government and UNHCR has brought to our attention today a comprehensive legal review of national refugee legislation. I believe that this analysis will serve as a valuable resource and reliable guide for members of parliament and government agencies in establishing a national asylum system in line with international standards and best practices, said UN Representative in Tashkent Consuelo Vidal-Bruce.
The analysis was carried out by UNHCR at the request of the NCHR in the framework of assisting the intention of Uzbekistan, expressed at the 30th session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on Human Rights of the UN Human Rights Council, to consider acceding to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its Protocol 1967.
