Uzbekistan is committed to "green energy," but also does not forget about traditional energy sources. This is evident from the report on the implementation progress of investment projects in the field of geology, presented to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This information comes from the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
In the first six months of 2024, nearly 3 million tons of coal were mined. In the second half of the year, it is planned to extract over 5 million additional tons. Of these, 1.8 million tons will be supplied to thermal power plants, over 1 million to the population, 540 thousand tons to social institutions, and 1.8 million tons of local coal will be put up for exchange trading.
Overall, it is expected that coal production will increase by 1.4 million tons compared to last year, and the volume of imports will significantly decrease.
The industry is also implementing several investment projects. In particular, for the development of the Nishbash deposit, the Chinese company "Henan" plans to direct direct investments amounting to $400 million. As a result of this project, it is planned to extract up to 8 million tons of coal annually through underground mining and enrich 5 million tons of coal per year.
