Uzbekistan will not rely on external forces to protect its sovereignty in the current conditions of geopolitical tensions, said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, RIA Novosti reported.
On January 13, an expanded meeting of the Security Council of Uzbekistan was held under the chairmanship of Mirziyoyev at the National Defense Control Center. The event traditionally took place on the eve of the Day of Defenders of the Motherland, which has been celebrated in Uzbekistan on January 14 since 1992, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
"We do not need to look for strength from outside. We have our glorious history, our rich scientific and cultural heritage," Mirziyoyeva said at the meeting.
The President of Uzbekistan noted the growing challenges and threats to security in Central Asia in the context of the current tense geopolitical confrontations.
"In any situation, we are obliged to ensure state sovereignty, inviolability of borders and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan," Mirziyoyev said.
An analysis of armed conflicts of a hybrid nature in the world requires an increase in the combat capabilities of the armed forces of Uzbekistan, the agency said.
Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of providing the national army with modern equipment, including the development of military aviation and air defense systems.
"The task has been set to radically revise the system of organizing mobilization training and territorial defense of the country. The need to improve the skills of command personnel in command and control of troops and the use of means has been indicated," press service of Uzbek President added.
